DRIVING SAFE IN WINTER

SLOW DOWN NOT BECAUSE THERE IS DISPLAY BOARD
THIS IS YOUR OWN SAFETY

Through the City’s speed management program, Speed Advisory Display Boards help educate and modify driver behaviour by reducing vehicle speeds in problematic areas of our community. Using radar technology, the devices record approaching vehicle speeds and display it back to the driver. Most of our units are also equipped with variable messaging advising drivers to slow down when traveling at excessive speeds. Data collected from the display boards over the past several years has shown that, while deployed, vehicle speeds can be reduced by up to 20%.

For the October – December period, the City’s 24 speed advisory display boards have been deployed to the priority locations listed below in Ward 6.

STREET & SECTION WITHIN WARD 6
Bur Oak Avenue. Pierre Elliott Trudeau High School Zone
Greenspire Ave. Between Major Mackenzie Dr. E & Castlemore Ave.
19th Avenue. Between Kennedy Rd. & Warden Ave.

Following this deployment period, the display boards will be redeployed to other priority locations within the City in January. For more information on the program, please refer to the City’s Traffic Engineering website at www.markham.ca/traffic and click on “Speed Management”.
