Update information from City of Markham

The following has been received from the City of Markham affecting Club activities.

Dear Community Users,

On April 8th, the Province of Ontario announced a provincial wide lockdown for a period of 28 days. This was recently extended for an additional 2 weeks, taking the lockdown period to May 20, 2021. The lockdown resulted in a closure of Markham recreation facilities and in-person programs.

Throughout the COVID–19 Pandemic, the City of Markham has taken a cautious approach to opening facilities and services. We understand the value of keeping our community active; however, we continue to balance this with keeping our staff and the community safe.

Given the uncertainty of when we will be able to reopen and the anticipated restrictions that will still be in place, a decision has been made to keep all indoor Recreation Community Centres closed for the summer including arenas, pools, gymnasiums and fitness centres. The Markham Pan Am Centre, if provincial legislation permits, will re-open for training high-performance athletes.

Recreation Services will continue to provide virtual fitness and programs.

Summer Services will be focused on outdoor activities:

• Morgan Outdoor Pool will be open from June-September for lane swim, aquafit, lessons and rec swim.

• Pop Up in the Park Program (PUPP) which provides a 1.5 hour programs in local parks for children age 6 – 12. This is a pre-registered program. Further details will be available regarding location and registration mid-May.

• Outdoor programs
• Fitness in the Park

We thank you for your continued patience during this difficult time and look forward to connecting with you as we plan for future seasons.
