Markham Food Bank - Update

Supported by the AGOAC Board, and in keeping with the spirit of Christmas giving, 2 small group parties were held on December 11 and 18, back to back Sundays, to collect food items for Markham Food Bank (www.markhamfoodbank.ca). These parties were hosted by the Angus Glen evening line dance groups and friends (Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays).

A stock pile of non-perishable food items and personal hygiene products were donated. $213 were also raised through donation and minimal admission fees. A check has been issued by the Club and will be delivered to the Markham food bank. Many thanks to the volunteers who facilitated all the party logistics, especially those who helped to collect the food items and deliver them to the local fire halls.

17 per cent of Markham’s population is poor, having an income of less than $25,000 a year. For a family, nearly half of that is spent on rent. After bills, hydro and all of the other things, food comes last and sometimes there is not enough. We hope that this small gesture will help those in need.

Special acknowledge also goes to the line dance instructors and our impromptu DJs who helped to make these parties so much fun!

The AG evening line dance groups and friends wish everyone a merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!
